Artifiable robots
Artifiable robots are capable of performing different tasks in the world. Typical classical robot tasks are exhausting, repetitive, and hazardous to humans. This does not qualify them as intelligent, but it does mean that they are capable of performing certain tasks.
Fixed robots
While fixed robots can operate independently, their ability to work within a closed space is limited. Depending on the robot’s application, this space could overlap with other industrial machines or robotic systems. In such cases, the robot would fail to perform its tasks or could be damaged by an object. If the robot is not designed for a closed space environment, it could also cause injury to workers through electrical shock, fire, and explosion.
To determine whether a pantograph or cam mechanism will be suitable for a robot, simulations were conducted using various environments. The robot’s fixed point was placed on either B1 or B2, and the input motion speed was the same for both simulations. The resulting gaits were compared by measuring their horizontal displacements and power consumption. These results suggest that different fixed positions can lead to different gait lengths.
Mobile robots
In recent years, the popularity of robotics has been limited to simple industrial applications and teleoperated mobile robots with cameras. Other uses of mobile robots include underwater and flying applications, which are useful for disaster response, and shipwreck searching. While these applications have been useful in the past, they don’t represent the many potential uses for truly autonomous robots.
Surveillance bots
The development of autonomous surveillance robots has become an essential part of law enforcement, but there are limitations to this technology. While surveillance robots communicate in computer language, they will eventually learn to translate human thoughts. It may be a few years before surveillance robots can communicate with each other, but this is not the case today. Researchers are currently working to program surveillance robots to be fully autonomous and connected to the internet. While traditional surveillance systems send data to a human operator who interprets the scene and makes tactical decisions, these robots will communicate with each other.
